NO CLIQUE // 14th January
I’ll be at Folklore, Hoxton on Wednesday 14th January performing an improvised set with a group of musicians I’ve never met before, organised by Improv’s Greatest Hits, a London and Bristol based collective ‘uniting scenes and genres through improvised music’. I’ll be performing in a group with a harp, guitar, bass, and drums.
I really love the philosophy of this collective. To get an idea of what they’re about, here’s something from their manifesto:
‘We believe in promoting experimental and improvised music away from the gatekeeper’s eye and into the hands of whoever has a passion for it . . . We don’t label the music or preempt any performance with descriptions of genre. Freedom is created. We work outside the confines of a scene and do not feel the need to be in one.’
I think this will be a really musically fascinating night and I’m excited not only to take part, but also to see what sounds emerge from the other groups performing.
